The story of the dead man’s fire. It was around midday when three boys were playing hide and seek. The seeker started counting 1… 2…, and the other boys ran off to find a hiding spot. One of the boys went to hide behind a gigantic boulder and another went to hide in an abandoned and burnt house near the forest. Both these spots were such good hiding spots that they both knew that they would never be found and…. they never were.
After hiding for some time without being found by the seeker, one of the boys hiding behind the boulder got tired of hiding. He got out and went to show off his hiding spot. The other boy who was hiding in the abandoned house was on the other hand just about to get comfortable when he felt a squishy thing touch his hand.
When he turned to see what that was, he saw a dead body. He was so scared that he ran out of the old shack toward his friends. He told them what he had seen but none of his friends believed him. They asked to be taken to where he had seen the body as they wanted to see it with their own eyes.
When the boys got to the abandoned house they saw the dead body. The boys started looking around and looking for clues as to what could have killed him. It was then that they found a note written “you deserve this”. In their hands now, was a mystery that they wanted to solve and they started looking around the house for more clues.
It was then that the boys concluded that the dead man had been locked in the house for the flames to consume him slowly. Curious to find out more, they continued searching the house until they found a secret passage that led them to an underground bunker. Here they met an old looking man who didn’t seem quite right. In fact, it seemed like he was wearing a fake beard.
Everything about him was weird but the 3 boys ignored the clues that were right in front of them. They instead started listening to the stories this old looking man was giving them. He told them of how the dead man was a deranged mad man. Who in his craziness one day lit the house on fire; and to shield himself, the old man ran to the bunker in order to survive.
Later in the evening, when the boys got home, they told their parents what had happened to them during the day…. It was at this point that their parents told them that what they had just experienced was not real… That it was just some teenagers pranking anyone who visited the abandoned house.
The dead man’s fire was all a lie!
Moral: Things are not always what they seem to be.
