A birthday to remember

The tale of a birthday to remember. Today was Crinkle’s 17th birthday and he was looking forward to eating some cake and receiving his birthday gift from his parents. He had spent the week hinting about a brand new car that he had seen at the neighborhood car yard while taking a walk with his parents. He just couldn’t wait for his parents to come home.

It was getting late and his parents were yet to get home. He started getting anxious wondering what could have happened to them. “Maybe they were planning a surprise”, he thought. He tried calling them on their cell phones but none of them were answering their phones.

Evening came and still, there was no sign of his parents. Something did not seem right as they always made it home on time, so he decided to go look for them around the town. He asked everyone he met. Until one person told him of how he saw his parent’s car heading towards an abandoned warehouse just outside the town.

Having watched many movies, he didn’t want to be one of those dumb kids who run towards danger without a second thought about what they were doing; so he called the police to come meet and help him check out the warehouse. He then headed to the warehouse to wait for the police to arrive.

As soon as he got to the warehouse, he saw some cars parked outside one of which was his parent’s car. As he was peeping in to see the inside of the warehouse, he saw his parents seated in the middle of the room with their hands tied on their back and their mouth covered with cell-o-tape. It looked like they had been kidnapped. He could not believe his eyes. “Is this how I will be spending my birthday? without my parents? and cake? and car?” he wondered.

As he stood back to wait for the police to arrive, he noticed one of the old cars had the car keys left at the ignition of the car. He could not believe it; the kidnappers had forgotten to lock their car. This was his chance to try and save his parents from the kidnappers. Without much of a thought, he got into the car and drove straight into the warehouse aiming for the door, just where he had seen the kidnappers stand earlier.

His driving lessons had come in handy. He hit the kidnappers with the car and just then, the police arrived arresting the kidnappers and saving his parents.

He was grateful to have his parents safe and sound that he did not remember it was his birthday. To his surprise, his parents gave him the keys to one of the new cars that had been parked at the warehouse. This day was turning out to be one of his best birthday’s after all.

Moral: Always plan ahead.
