The boy who outsmarted the snake

The story of the boy who outsmarted the snake. There was once an isolated island that was far away from the mainland. The people on this island did not know how to build boats or bridges. Therefore, they never got to leave their island or experience what life was like out there on the mainland. This is until one day a giant snake approached them. The giant snake offered to stretch all the way from the island to the mainland just for them to visit. Everyone on the island was soo excited by this plan that they did not stop to ask why the snake was being so nice to them.

This is except for one boy who sensed something was not right the very first instant the snake offered to carry them over to the mainland. He knew there must have been a price for this ‘good deed’ but he just did not know what it was. To prepare himself for the journey, he went to the forest and collected all the thorns he could gather, and took them along with him.

The time came when the snake stretched itself giving way to everyone on the island to walk across. As soon as the people had reached just about halfway, the snake recoiled its body. The sneaky snake started eating all the people who were trying to cross over. It was at this point that the boy took all the thorns he had carried with him; gave everyone around him so that they would all use the thorns to scratch the snake as they went down its throat. The more the snake recoiled, the more the thorns pricked it, hurting it even more.

The snake could not take the pain in anymore so he decided to make a deal with them. The deal was for them to stop pricking the snake and in return, the snake would take them to the mainland without eating them.

The boy outsmarted the snake. When they got to the mainland it was so beautiful. It had new and interesting things that they had never seen in their lives before. By the time they were going back home, they had bought everything they needed for their next trip. They got equipment that wouls allow them to cross the ocean anytime they wanted.
