John was a homeless man who had lived on the streets for about 9 years now. His parents had kicked him out of their home so that he could learn how to fend for himself. They had hoped that he would learn to be responsible but this was not to be. John still continued with his irresponsible behaviors. He even got worse than when he was with his parents. His parents had become so tired of his bad behavior Every time they met him on the streets, they would act like they did not even know him.
John started harassing strangers and stealing from people in the town he was even feared by his fellow street friends.
After a few years of being the biggest, meanest street bully in town, he decided it was time for him to change. He had seen some of his fellow street friends doing good deeds and getting rewarded for them. In fact, one of his homeless friends had once found a suitcase full of money. To the surprise of everyone, he did not even touch a cent of the money that was in the suitcase. He took all the money to the police station just as he had found it. Soon the owner was called in for it, he was so grateful that he rewarded him with a nice job, a house, and a car and he started a new life away from the streets.
John also hoped for the same thing for himself. As fate would have it, he too also bumped into a suitcase full of money while he was on his daily strolls in the park. He was so excited to find the money. He did not remember what he had promised himself he would do if ever he was in such a situation. Instead, he kept the money for himself. The homeless man immediately moved from the streets and started using the money little by little.
“His luck had finally turned around”, he thought…. but this was not to be. After a few months, the police came knocking on his door, arresting him for taking money that was said to have been used for criminal activities. Turns out the police had been investigating a criminal gang for quite some time. On the day that John found the money, one of the gang members had just hidden the stash in the trashcan knowing that he would come for it later on.
Moral: Always do the right thing.
