The Talking Tomato

The talking tomato
The story of the Talking Tomato is about a curious little tomato who believes he’s really a human child and sets off to discover where he truly belongs.

Once upon a time, in a bright green farm full of juicy red tomatoes, there lived one very unusual tomato. Unlike all the others that just sat quietly soaking up the sun, this tomato could think…..and even talk!

He often whispered to himself when no one was looking. “Why am I the only one who can talk?” he would wonder. The other tomatoes never answered, of course. They just sat there!

One hot afternoon, as he watched the farmers working, he saw a man get pricked by a thorn. Red liquid started dripping from the farmer’s hand. The tomato gasped.
“Wait a minute! That’s the same red stuff that came out of me when I got poked by a stick last week!” he exclaimed.
His eyes….. well, if tomatoes had eyes widened in surprise.
“I must be… human!”

The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. “Maybe all human children come from tomatoes like me!” he decided, feeling very proud of his discovery.

So, he rolled off the vine and bounced all the way to the farmer’s house. When he finally reached the doorstep, he shouted, “Hello, humans! It’s me, your long-lost tomato child!”

The farmer and his family nearly dropped their tools in shock.
“A talking tomato?!” they gasped.

They brought him inside carefully, placed him on a plate, and started asking him all kinds of questions. The tomato told them everything…. About how lonely it was on the farm, how it could hear them talk, and how it always wished to join them.

Soon, everyone in the neighborhood heard about the amazing talking tomato. People came from faraway towns just to see him. Some asked for his advice, others wanted pictures, and a few even tried to teach their own vegetables to talk.

But after a while, the tomato began to lose its bright red color. His skin wrinkled, and his cheerful voice grew weaker.

The farmer called for help, but there was nothing anyone could do.

The scientists who visited explained that the tomato had once been sprayed with a special chemical on the farm. It had accidentally made him talk, but now it was wearing off.

One quiet evening, the tomato took a deep breath and whispered, “Thank you for letting me know what it’s like to be human.” And then, he was gone.

The family buried him gently in the garden, planting a small tomato seed above his spot.

Months later, a new tomato plant grew there, strong and healthy. It didn’t talk, but every time the wind blew through its leaves, the family liked to imagine it was whispering, “Thank you.”
