It was a crisp Sunday morning, and I was buzzing with excitement. My bags were packed, and my heart raced with anticipation. I was about to meet my best friend at the airport.
Why?
Because I had won a writing competition with a grand prize: an all-expense-paid trip to Paris!
And not just a trip—I had the chance to bring a plus one, and of course, I chose my friend who had been my biggest supporter throughout the journey.
My friend was a genuinely great guy. He was into online gaming and was pretty successful at it. Sometimes he’d win money from his gaming skills, which made me a little envious since I didn’t have a way to earn money like he did.
He must have seen the envy in my eyes because one day, he approached me with an idea.
“You know,” he said, “since you love reading and storytelling, why don’t you try writing your own stories? There’s a competition coming up. It could be fun and a great way to test your skills.”
That competition turned out to be the one I won, leading to this incredible trip to Paris.
It was his suggestion and encouragement that made me take the leap into writing. He wasn’t just my plus one because he was my best friend; he deserved it – he was the reason I had the chance to experience this adventure.
As time passed, our paths diverged, and we drifted apart.
Today, I’m a successful writer, making a living from the stories I craft.
Every now and then, I find myself looking for my old friend, remembering how his encouragement changed the course of my life.
