Unlucky on Saturday is a story about a day that I hoped would be my day for rest
It was a Saturday morning, and I had planned to chill and relax all day. But when I woke up, I found my mom feeling really sick. So, I stepped up and agreed to go to the market for her. She handed me a handful of cash and I set off with a brown bag in hand, ready to tackle the shopping list.
I got to the market faster than you can say “Dwayne Johnson.” The air was filled with the tangy scent of fruits and vegetables, and the buzz of chatter was everywhere. I dove into my list, picking up everything I needed with ease.
Everything was going smoothly until something caught my eye. There was an old man sitting under a sign that read “FREE ITEMS.” My curiosity got the better of me—what could I lose? I decided to check it out.
I walked up to the old man, who handed me a box without saying a word. When I peeked inside, my jaw dropped. It was a super expensive phone—exactly the kind I’d been dreaming of. But then I remembered the saying, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
And so I asked the old man, “Is there any catch with me accepting this phone?”
He sweetly replied, “No,” and offered to wrap the box up for me.
I agreed, and he packed it faster than I could blink. It actually made me wonder if he was actually as old as he looked.
I should have trusted my instincts; instead I trusted the old man’s words.
Just as I was about to leave, he suggested I try out the camera that was also up for grabs. I was so excited that I put my groceries down and followed him to a spot he showed me with good lighting for me to test out the camera. But when I opened the box, I was stunned—it was just an empty box!
Panic surged through me. I ran back to the old man, only to find he had disappeared along with my groceries. I had just been scammed.
With too little money left to replace the stolen items, I trudged home with a heavy heart.
When I told my mom what happened, she laughed gently and said, “Well, now you know. Always check things out carefully before jumping in.”
Moral of the story: Be cautious and think twice before trusting too easily.
