Joash was preparing to go for the X-Wars. This was a competition that had been hyped for its grand prize – an X-Box. Joash had been looking forward to taking part in the competition as he was the only boy in his school that did not have an X-Box. This was his one chance to make sure that he would finally own one.
His parents did not have the money to buy an X-box for him and they were happy to accompany him to the X-Wars competitions. The competitions were full of other kids who were just as eager to win the X-Box. He paid the fees to get into the games and as soon as he got to the start of the games, he realized that he was among the biggest boys in the contests.
Every game he tried, he lost to the smaller kids who were faster and more agile. He tried so much to win at least one of the competitions but he was not so lucky. Disappointed by what was happening, he began to feel down and almost gave up on his dream of owning his very own X-Box
But just when he was about to give up, the last round of challenges was called in. This was the intellectual round where his brains would finally be in use. The challenges in this round earned double the points and focused on smart nerdy topics giving him a chance to shine for the first time since the challenges started.
Finally, it was time for the organizers to tally the scores of all the game participants. Joash’s scores were slowly coming up, surprising everyone as he emerged as the participant with the highest points. Joash was announced the X-Wars winner.
He was so excited about his win. “Finally, I will have own his X-Box!” He thought.
When the time came to receive his prize, he was given a big box with a big X on it. A box with an X on it!!
Joash was in disbelief.
As it turns out, the competition terms had indicated that the X-Box would indeed be a Box with an X.
He was just too excited to read through everything on the poster.
