The story of the skunks and beavers. There was a bunch of beavers that looked different from everyone else in the herd. This set of beavers had brown fur and loved hanging out on trees and eating bark. The other set of beavers were black and white and loved eating fruits and plants. They were so different from the rest but the beavers still accepted them. They took good care of them as one of their own and gave them food when they needed it.
What the beavers did not know was that this bunch was not really beavers but a set of cunning skunks. The skunks had lived a very tough life in the wild and they used to admire the beaver’s family. The skunks decided to infiltrate and lie to them. They came to the beavers pretending to be their long-lost cousins from a land far away. Soon the beavers accepted them into their home. The skunks slowly started stealing from the beavers and taking the stash to a storehouse they had secretly set up in the forest.
For a long time, the skunks were able to fool and steal from the beavers. After not so long they started becoming careless in their actions. One day, as the skunks were going to take some of the stolen things to their storehouse, they did not bother to look around to see if anyone was following them or even close the door when they got to the storehouse.
This young beaver decided to follow the skunks just to see what they were up to. The beaver had seen what was hidden in the storehouse. He realized that the skunks were not their friends but thieves who had come to steal from them. The skunks attempted to stop the beaver from reporting them but it was all in vain. It was too late for them.
As soon as the council of elders heard of the story from the young beaver, they decided to chase them away from their home and banned them from ever coming near any beaver. They were also tagged with a stinky scent that followed them everywhere they went. From that day onwards, all beavers were able to detect skunks from afar because of the smell that had been sprayed on them.
The skunks on the other hand became so bitter that they decided they would spray everyone in their way with their stinky smell. That way everyone would stink like the skunks.
Moral: Don’t steal from people who try to help you.
