Mom and son had heard stories of treasure in their backyard. The two of them spent countless hours digging under the warm sun, hoping to strike gold. Day after day, they imagined finding sparkling jewels and ancient coins.
But after months of digging without any luck, the son started to feel bored. “Can’t we take a break? I want to hang out with my friends!” he said one afternoon, wiping the sweat from his brow. The mom understood; digging wasn’t the most exciting thing to do all day long. So, she gave him a nod and said, “Go have fun! I’ll keep searching for the treasure.”
With that, the son raced off to play, leaving his mom to continue her quest. She moved from one corner of the yard to another, determined to find the treasure.
One day, as she dug deeper and deeper, her shovel hit something hard.
She cleared away the dirt to reveal a large, old casket. With her heart pounding with excitement, she opened it, expecting to find sparkling treasures. Instead, she was shocked to see an old man, alive and sleeping inside!
When the old man woke up, he looked bewildered but relieved. “Thank you for freeing me!” he exclaimed.
He then shared his incredible story. “My daughter buried me alive because she wanted all my riches for herself,” he explained. “I am not sure why, but she left me food, and somehow, it kept me alive all these years.”
As the old man recounted his tale, he realized that many months had passed since he was buried. “Looks like my daughter passed away soon after.” he said. ” Ironically, she never got to enjoy the wealth she so eagerly sought.”
Grateful to be rescued, the old man offered the mom a portion of his wealth. “You’ve saved my life, and I want to share my riches with you,” he said.
To her surprise, the mom discovered that their house had once belonged to him! After his daughter’s betrayal, no one in town dared to live there because they believed it was haunted.
The mom and son had just moved to the town, completely unaware of the stories surrounding their home. Turns out it was the best decision of their life; they were now rich, thanks to the old man who was buried in their backyard.
