In the man who ate too much, Hazel learns that indulgence can come at a high cost when it leads to unexpected dangers.
There was a man named Hazel who worked as an accountant in a busy city called Stratz.
Hazel didn’t really love his job, but it paid the bills and gave him a comfortable life, which was enough for him. He wasn’t the hardest worker, though, and spent most of his days doing the bare minimum in the office.
One day, a wealthy and famous chef came looking for workers, and Hazel’s boss recommended him for the role.
The chef offered Hazel a job that sounded too good to pass up—he wanted him to be his food taster! He’d get paid to try all kinds of delicious food whenever the chef made a new dish. It was like a dream come true for anyone who loved food, and of course, Hazel said yes!
At first, everything seemed perfect.
Hazel got to do nothing but eat all day, every day, and make money while at it.
The chef wanted him to eat every hour, even when he wasn’t hungry. And although this was exciting at first, Hazel was sometimes so full that he felt sick. But he couldn’t say no.
With time, Hazel started to gain weight and he became bigger and bigger—so much so that his clothes didn’t fit anymore.
After a year of eating nonstop, Hazel couldn’t take it any longer and decided to quit his job.
While working for the chef, Hazel had hardly left the house. As he was always eating, he never got to enjoy life outside. On his last day of working, as he left the restaurant where he spent all his days and nights, it dawned on him that he had forgotten a lot about the world—like simple things such as how to cross the street safely.
In his confusion, he almost stepped in front of a moving car! The car swerved just in time, but the shock was so much for Hazel that he had a heart attack.
The doctors said that because of all the extra weight, Hazel’s heart had been squeezed too tightly to work properly. They couldn’t save him, and sadly, Hazel passed away.
Moral: Not everything that seems perfect at first is always as good as it seems.
