Harrison did not know it yet, but one small magic word was about to change his whole day.
When Harrison woke up, his feet went splash!
Water was everywhere! His house was flooded, and all his clothes were wet. Harrison felt sad and worried.
“I need help,” he said softly.
Harrison walked to a small restaurant nearby. He was still wearing his pajamas because nothing else was dry. His tummy rumbled loudly.
At the counter, Harrison spoke kindly and said,
“Please, may I have some breakfast? I don’t have any money today.”
The cook smiled.
“Because you said please, you may eat,” she said.
After breakfast, Harrison went to the park. While walking, he saw something shiny on the ground. It was a one-hundred-dollar bill!
Harrison felt happy, but then he saw a man sitting on a bench. The man looked cold and tired.
Harrison walked up to him and said,
“Please, take this money. I want to help you.”
The man looked surprised.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
Harrison nodded and said again,
“Please.”
Suddenly, the man stood up and smiled.
“You have used the magic word,” he said. “And you have a kind heart.”
It turned out that the man was actually very rich and was just testing the kindness of strangers on the streets! He gave Harrison one million dollars as a reward for being polite and kind.
Happy, Harrison went home smiling, knowing he would never forget the magic word.
Moral: Kind words like “please” can bring kindness back to you.
