The talking tomato

The story of the talking tomato. There was this tomato that was very different from all the other tomatoes on the farm. Firstly, unlike the other tomatoes, this one could somehow understand humans. He would even find himself talking to himself. He always wondered what was wrong with all the other tomatoes around him but was never able to explain the difference.

One day, he saw one of the human farmers getting pricked by the thorns on the farm. Immediately, some red stuff started coming out of him. He remembered a day when this also happened to him; when he pricked his skin and some red stuff also came out of him.

“I must be human,” he thought.

He was so excited to finally figure out that he must have been a human child. He thought that all children must originate from tomatoes like him. Eager to join his new family, he quickly dashed to the human’s home looking to surprise them. The humans were so surprised to see a talking tomato at their door. They could not believe their eyes and ears.

They welcomed him to their home looking to find out if there were any more tomatoes like him who could talk. The tomato told them everything he knew, about how he was the only one who seemed to speak or understand what the humans were doing.

News of the talking tomato spread all over the neighborhood that the farmer’s family started becoming famous. People would come from very far looking to see the talking tomato and hear his stories. This went on for a while until one day, the tomato just started losing its shine and it eventually decomposed and died.

Turns out the chemicals the tomato had been accidentally sprayed with while on the farm were toxic. It was beginning to wear off and this meant that he could no longer continue to survive unless he was rooted to the ground. It was a sad day for the family as they had grown so fond of the tomato in the short time they had known each other.

Moral: Not everything lasts forever.
